Joining the Northfield Cross Country Team
The Northfield Cross Country program holds tryouts at the start of the season to assess each athlete’s current fitness level. However, coaches are committed to supporting every student who is motivated to improve, including those who may not yet be able to complete two miles without walking. Our coaching staff works closely with all team members to develop individualized training plans that encourage gradual progress and build endurance. Athletes are expected to attend regular practices and participate fully in team activities. During races, runners stay together as a team for warm-ups, cool-downs, and to support one another, while parents are encouraged to attend and observe from designated areas. This structure fosters a positive, inclusive environment where every athlete can grow and contribute.
Parent Support & Team Events
The success of the Northfield Cross Country program relies on strong community and parent support. One of our long-standing traditions is the weekly spaghetti dinner, hosted by families on the night before meets. These dinners give runners a chance to bond and fuel up together. Parents can sign up to host or assist with food prep, setup, and cleanup. Throughout the season, we may also need help organizing other team events, volunteering for our home meet, or planning our end-of-season banquet. Opportunities will be shared regularly via updates and team communications—your involvement makes a big difference and is deeply appreciated!
